Super Mario Galaxy Film Preview Is Here, Unveiling Rosalina and Bowser Jr. Voice Cast
Nintendo and Illumination released the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. The reveal happened in a dedicated Nintendo presentation that focused exclusively on the upcoming animated film.
Following up on the 2023 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will transport Mario to the distant reaches of the galaxy. In his journey, he meets a new princess and a formidable new rival in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.
An Interstellar Journey Inspired by Classic Games
Similar to the Wii console classics that provide its foundation, Mario will leave behind the well-known surroundings of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. During his grand adventure, he will encounter once more some recognizable characters, including the Luma, a fan favorite from the original cinematic release.
But it appears Mario and his sibling Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who reportedly wields metal-based powers. Worth mentioning, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also features references to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Star-Studded Voice Cast Returns and Expands
The movie will welcome back of the initial voice actors, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Joining the cast for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. It was announced by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
A Big Year for Mario
The upcoming Mario film is planned to debut near the four-decade milestone of the first Super Mario Bros. title. Beyond the film, 2026 is shaping up to be a major period for Mario and his friends.
The company has three new games officially announced for that year, including Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Release Date Confirmed
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
