The hosts secured a 93-run victory
Pakistan halted the reigning champions the Proteas' unbeaten run by achieving a 93-run margin win in an exciting and closely contested first Test in the city of Lahore.
The Proteas, whose 10-match winning streak in Test cricket culminated in a win against the Aussies in the World Test Championship final in June, were dismissed for 183 chasing 277.
Having resumed on 51 for two, they lost first-innings centurion Tony de Zorzi lbw to pace bowler Afridi to the third ball of the day to push the finely-poised run chase in Pakistan's favor.
Left-arm spinner Noman, who took 10-191 in the match, dismissed Stubbs for 2 and bowled Brevis, who put up a fight with a rapid 54.
Off-spinner Sajid Khan also capitalized on sharp turn to terminate opener Rickelton's stay - he lasted 145 balls for 45 runs - and Afridi came back in the post-lunch session to knock over the lower order with a fine display of reverse swing.
He had Kyle Verreynne lbw for 19 and bowled Prenelan Subrayen and Rabada to secure the win.
It was each team's first match of the 2025-2027 Test championship cycle and moves Pakistan directly into second place behind leaders the Australian team.
The win was founded on key performances of 93 by opening batsman Imam and, importantly, number seven Salman Agha which boosted them to three hundred and seventy-eight.
From there slow bowlers Noman Ali and Sajid utilized helpful home pitches, as they did in their series victory over England last year, to maintain their advantage.
The second and last match starts on October 20.
