Exploring an Unique Steam Demo: Guiding a Turdy Character in a Mission to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have discovered numerous entertaining creations from small studios. However, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game features a protagonist that is truly a turd striving to navigate to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
The gameplay is simple: just use a single jump button. Across 150 challenges, you'll face tough enemies and unlock a shop to buy customizations for your fecal avatar.
Plan your movements precisely, since one mistake forces restarting the level. Bounce using bubbles to launch the poop upward, navigate crumbling platforms, and interact with triggers to unlock new areas. Collect coins for buying tougher stages where gameplay ramps up.
Graphically, the demo features neon stages and catchy soundtrack. The retro visual style with shifting geometric shapes may remind gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.
While it's tough to think of previous releases where you are a piece of feces, gaming have long featured fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can make grenades from protagonist excrement. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as fertilizer. Naturally, this theme is present a lot in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already received significant awards, including being named best at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. The demo is ready now on Steam, with the complete version planned to launch on Steam on November 19.
