Caelan Doris Included in Irish Selection While McCarthy Left Out

Returning manager Andy Farrell has selected skipper Doris in his Ireland team for the autumn internationals, however Joe McCarthy has been excluded.

The captain, absent from play since having a shoulder operation in the start of May, recently returned to provincial training, though his fitness is uncertain if he will be ready to play against the All Blacks in Chicago on November 1.

Second row McCarthy, however, did not make the cut after failing to recover from the foot issue suffered during the opening Lions match against Australia in the summer.

Northern province forward Cormac Izuchukwu and southern province wing Calvin Nash are also absent due to fitness concerns, and full-back Keenan had already been ruled out after having hip surgery after the summer tour.

Leinster prop Paddy McCarthy - Joe's younger brother - is the sole uncapped member in the 34-player group, but Irish rugby authorities states new provincial pair Edogbo and Brian Gleeson and once-capped western province wing Bolton will head to the US as "backup".

Following facing the All Blacks at Soldier Field in a rematch of their 2016 encounter, the team host the Brave Blossoms, the Wallabies and world title holders the Springboks in the Irish capital.

In a largely experienced selection, Leinster's Sam Prendergast and Munster's Crowley will once again compete for the starting fly-half position. The fly-half role is remains up for grabs, with Prendergast and Crowley poised to play against each other for the first occasion in Saturday's United Rugby Championship game at Croke Park.

Frawley is the additional number 10 selected as the coach deciding not to selecting Leinster's Byrne.

At number 9, Farrell has selected Lions tourist Gibson-Park and Casey, who captained Ireland to the summer international victories over Georgia and the Lobos. Additionally, there is a recall for the western province's Caolin Blade, chosen to teammate Murphy.

Robbie Henshaw, Aki, Garry Ringrose and McCloskey represent an veteran group of midfield options. Osborne is another option in the centres, but the 23-year-old is additionally a frontrunner to cover for Keenan at full-back.

Outside backs James Lowe, Hansen, O'Brien and Stockdale are included. The winger impressed on his first Ireland outings over the summer with two tries apiece in the victories over the Lelos and Portugal.

Paddy McCarthy is the sole fresh name in the Ireland pack. The loose-head prop has been in two of Leinster's three league matches so far and played in Ireland A's loss by England in Bristol previously.

The 22-year-old was included in caretaker coach Paul O'Connell's summer squad, but did not receive a cap.

Southern province lock Ahern, who earned his first two caps in those Tests, is kept in the squad, and veteran Northern province second row Henderson returns after sitting out the summer matches.

Jack Conan, who started all three Lions matches over the summer, is poised to deputise for the captain if the captain fails to recover full fitness in time to face the All Blacks.

The Ireland squad will meet in Dublin on Monday before flying to the US on the following day.
